Exciting Summer Projects...

As has been the tradition of Camp Theatre Jacksonville for over two decades, our staff is gearing up for some very exciting summer projects
full of the music, dancing, and acting the likes of which our campers, their
families, and friends have come to expect and love! We're very eager to present a few changes to our regular routine that we hope will further invigorate the creativity and energy of our campers.

Change of venue...

trotterFirst is a partial change of venue to enhance the smooth flow of the camp day. We will be spending the first 2 weeks of our first camp and the first 3 weeks of our second camp at the Trotter Activities Center, formerly the home of the San Marco Family YMCA. The Trotter Activities Center is located 0.2 miles from Theatre Jacksonville at 1435 Atlantic Blvd. Camp
Theatre Jacksonville will have access to the classroom areas on the 3rd floor for instruction and rehearsal as well as the large gymnasium for morning and afternoon activities. There is a very safe and easily accessible pick up and drop off area with several designated parking spots. The final week of both camps will be back on stage at Theatre Jacksonville where the campers will have technical rehearsals for the end of camp showcase performances.

We're so pleased to announce that in addition to our traditional summer camp, which begins on July 16, we will be offering an alternative 3 week concentrated camp in June, where the final product is a kids production of
Broadway's A Year With Frog and Toad.

Getta Loada Us!

We're so excited to be presenting the 3-time Tony Nominated Broadway
musical A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD by Robert and Willie Reale. Arnold
Loebel's well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in this wonderfully heart-warming musical. Conceived by Mr. Lobel's daughter, Adrianne Lobel, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four funfilled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed to plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special. Campers will get the experience of putting up a fully staged production with light costuming, directed and choreographed by our professional staff.

There's No Business Like Show Business

Led through four fun filled and action packed weeks of camp by our team of trained and professional instructors, campers delve into theatre through daily classes in acting, musical theatre, dance, and improvisation. At the end of the session campers take the stage in an original piece created especially for them by camp faculty. Watch as they perform at their best, singing, acting, and dancing with an energy that yearly blows the roof off of our Little Theatre.

Student Night

For each one of our mainstage productions, we offer local middle, high school, and college students the opportunity to attend the show's final dress rehearsal for the cost of $2.00 per student. Each area Drama and English teacher is sent a flyer for the upcoming student night performance and is told the seating availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. This arrangement benefits the students and the performers, by providing a low cost opportunity for a much needed "sneak preview" audience.

Study Guides

Our Educational Outreach department publishes a student study guide to correspond with each of our mainstage productions. These study guides summarize the script, provide a glossary, include background research, and offer interpretive questions helpful in bringing about class discussion and a better understanding of the script. These guides are offered, free of charge, to local middle and high schools. Guides are usually prepared a week before a show opens and can be downloaded from that show's webpage.
